Maui--Arriving and Day One

I made Leah and Chris recreate this picture. I have the same one of me and my dad when I was a kid. Chris wasn't really annoyed. Both kids were actually awesome during the 10+ hours of flying. Juliet took a good nap on both flights. She was so worried that she would get motion sick again, but we made sure she had her "Sea Bands" and she was fine. On the way home, she actually slept through both landings and we had to wake her up to disembark the planes. The great thing about Delta is their entertainment systems. The girls could watch movies, shows, or play games for free. They didn't have to share a DVD player, and they could navigate the system pretty independently. The only thing they struggled with was not talking *super* loudly when wearing their headphones. Also, Leah would laugh out loud (loudly) often. It was pretty funny.
We got a convertible! It was pretty fun! We had to pack lightly because of the trunk space, but we fit all of our luggage, and a bunch of groceries in! We could have even packed lighter then we did. I packed less dresses than I typically do, but I could have packed even less. Because we had a condo, we didn't go out to dinner most nights. Many days, all we would wear were bathing suits and pajamas.

We got a Ford Mustang, which felt like it had a giant hood and like you were sitting 4 inches off the ground as your drove, but drove well and handled all the twisty roads very well. We all enjoyed it and we're glad we got it.
I will forever remember this trip as the trip my kids loved donuts. We never buy them, unless at an orchard in the fall. This trip, we bought a few the first day, and the kids loved them so much, that we bought more every time we went back to the store. We would pack them in our cooler, and the girls would eat them at lunch on the beach. When we were driving to the top of Haleakala, they were advertising some event on the radio called "Donuts and Muscle Cars". Chris and I thought it was so funny because we had packed donuts in our muscle car.
The first day we hung out at the beach by our condo, Kannapeli. It is usually rated one of the top beaches in Maui. It was really pretty, but in the area closest to us it was rocky for the first 20 feet or so of ocean. We had to walk down a ways down the beach for it not to be rocky. It wasn't bad, but kind of annoying, so the next time we used our home beach we tried the other side of our condo. That was much better, but you had to jump a low fence and cut through the ocean because of the construction that was happening at our complex.

Jet lag was hard the first day. We didn't go to bed until 9 Hawaiian time, which was 3am Michigan time. Despite that, Chris and I both woke up at 3am Hawaiian time and couldn't go back to sleep. The kids woke up at 5:30. These three took a little nap on the beach. I covered up the kids as much as I could. They napped again the next day, too, but after that we were pretty much on Hawaiian time.

Our condo had a great balcony with amazing sunset views. I tried to watch the sunset every night.
